Forester's Hut – Making My First Serious Project
Introduction
Briefly:
Hi there! I am an indie developer, my pseudonyms are VasiaCool, VasiaCool2017, VasiaCoolStudios and VasiokGregoriy. (I'll just use the first one)
ㅤ
Why VasiaCool:
Ler's talk about my pseudonym "VasiaCool", because apparently some people don't understand why I use it... Hey!!! I see what you are thinking, though it might sound silly, it has a deep story!! It's... uhm...
...
I still haven't come up with it just wait !!
ㅤ
About What This Post Is?
Recently I made a game "Forester's Hut", it is not a big game but i really tried to make something out of it :D and this post's purpose is to tell a little bit from the process of the development. By that I mean that here you will not find the description of the game so if you are not familiar with it, you can first check it out here(the game's page).
ㅤ
Why do I Make This Post:
I have been working on this project for quite a while and I thought that it would be nice to tell people a little bit about it, so I decided, that after I release my game I can make sort of sencere post to share the experience, and here it is!!

Story
Summer 2024 – The Idea
It all started in mid-summer, then I was feeling that I am supposed to do something since school's out, and then a brilliant idea came to my mind - Why can't I make a cool horror game like I watch on YouTube?
Then, of course I started to think where can I make my game and stopped on Godot, because it was free and open-source and Unity, which I has been using then had some unpleasant things going on.
Since I didn't have any experience I was atleast smart enough to make something very simple at first, and then I created a game with Brackeys tutorial, and after that... "Masterpiece", of course I decided that it's time to make a complicated 3D game, and the decision is even better when you realize that I didn't have any experience with 3D games.
As every beginner I didn't realize that it is pretty hard and thought that I can finish my game until the Autumn (I was naive)
ㅤ
Making The Game/First Setbacks
At the start I was just having fun with the engine.
(The really early look of my game)
Then after finishing the main controls I started to make the graphics, and it appeared to be really hard with zero experience but at the end I got my 1.0.0 Version, it had just a blank forest with trees and grass.
(ver. 1.0.0)
After that I started to add gameplay and it was the point where I started to question the idea of making a complete game without experience and try to really make it perfect.
Then the school began and I couldn't really shake off the feeling that I'm waisting my time. It has gotten worse as I started to push the deadlines, because I actually thought that if I couldn't finish the game before Autumn then it's just one month or so left.
But eventually I'm here with the project ready-to-go
ㅤ
Publishing
I have never published a game with the purpose to actually make it popular so even now I don't know if I do everything correct, but the thing that I understood is that publishing also takes time and it an important process which you can't skip.

Conclusion
What I Learned
I have understood, that it is really easy to underestimate the complexity of making a game alone, and that it is really important to define the deadlines right, rather than making yourself to believe, that the release is just a week ahead.
ㅤ
Did The Game Worth It?
Even now I can't say if all the struggle over balancing school, exams and neglecting other hobbies did worth it. Right now I just want to move on to something different
ㅤ
What I Think Personally
Honestly I am a little bit tired of the project, but still happy that I have actually finished it.
It is going to be interesting to see if anybody will actually like the game, and what is going to be the result of the project I was making for half a year, this is about what I am sure.
And hey! If you have read this long post then you can be proud of yourself, there were a lot of letters, to process!
And like that I am going to end this small message, thank you for your attention and bye!!!
